Spam will always been part of the Internet sadly. The only way to block it is to turn off comments and use backtracks only :-(

I don't think that any antispam extension can stop spammers, the best way is simple to edit all comments by yourself before posting them, yes I agree it is time consuming, but it is the only way.

That is a great extension to hold us over until Akismet is released for blogengine.

Anyway I've had different anti-spam plugins in my  blog (which is about camp program). Although it's sometimes tedious to manage all comments manually, I don't get spammed everyday. While most spammers get tools for spamming easily, I also get tools to get rid of the spam easily as well.

I think that the best filter to avoid bad comments nowaday is a wordpress askimet for exemple. After that, a lot of people are commenting manually on the do follow wawe. And this is a good thing left to the blogger himself if the professionnal commentator is a spammer or not. And this is a question.
