Google and the book settlement

I never really liked how Google ignored copyright (for the good of the people, of course!), and thought this article on Techcrunch was an interesting discussion of some of the issues: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/06/15/bezos-doesnt-like-googles-book-settlement-either/.

Not really, "do no evil" in my opinion.

Bing vs Yahoo Stats

I wish Microsoft would/could just buy Yahoo and get it over with ... at least the combined companies would have a better (albeit very small in my opinion) of offering an alternative to Google. A bit of pressure would be good for Google. Anyway, read more about the traffic stats (Yahoo vs Bing) at: http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Search-Engines/Microsofts-Bing-May-Not-Have-Lead-on-Yahoo-After-All-502719/?kc=EWKNLINF06102009STR5.

Shoemaker Suing Google Employee (from TechCrunch)

I'll be following this story ... Jeremy Shoemaker, owner of Shoemoney.com, is suing a fellow he claims used his trademarked property in Google Adwords. The kicker is this guy MAY be an employee of Google ... read more at: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/04/07/shoemoney-sues-google-employee-for-adwords-violations/.

Cuil launches ... competition for Google

Google just got another competitor ... the search engine Cuil (www.cuil.com) just launched, and claims that it searches a large index than Google. Thus far, I've seen some errors when I try to visit Page 2+ of search results. I'll try again later to see if they resolve some of these issues. Read the TechCrunch analysis here.

Note: Danny Sullivan just posted an in-depth review of Cuil as well, he brings up some great points (Yahoo, Ask, and Microsoft have been around for awhile, but all have not gained search share from Google). Read it at: http://searchengineland.com/080728-000100.php
